SUMMARY:50 Years of ‘The Book of Blam’ – What Have We Learned from Aleksandar Tišma?
DESCRIPTION:The ‘50 Years of ‘The Book of Blam’ – What Have We Learned from Aleksandar Tišma?’ panel will be held at the Svilara Cultural Station on 19 September, as part of the Literature Week ( https://kaleidoskopkulture.com/en/kaleidoscope-calendar-literature/ ) of the Kaleidoscope of Culture ( https://kaleidoskopkulture.com/en/kaleidoscope-calendar/ ).\nThe ‘50 Years of ‘The Book of Blam’ – What Have We Learned from Aleksandar Tišma?’ project is a panel dedicated to phenomena represented in the capital novel ‘The Book of Blam’ by Aleksandar Tišma. After half a century of its publication, the focal points of this work – violence against the innocent, phenomenology of evil, the destiny of Novi Sad during and after World War II, different types of fascism and the Holocaust, ethical plan of observing human life, as well as the individual guilt that keeps reappearing inside people and affects their later existence – are still relevant to this day, albeit inside different frames and contexts.  That is why it is important to recall everything that prompted Tišma to create such work and discuss its echoes in today’s society.\nThe interlocutors at this forum are the philosopher Dragan Prole, the theatre director Boris Liješević and the writer Oto Horvat. From different angles, they will be able to contribute to a more comprehensive overview of ‘The Book of Blam’ over the past fifty years and answer the question of whether new generations have learned anything from it, or not.\nThe second part of the project is planned as the publication of the transcript of the conversations that took place at this panel, and its publication in one of the relevant literary magazines.\nPartners of the Kaleidoscope of Culture are Erste Bank, IDEA, DDOR, A1 Srbija, and Heineken Srbija.\nThe event was made accessible to people with physical disabilities.\nPhoto: Promo\n
