DESCRIPTION:How El Greco became a great name of European art and a forerunner of modern painting from the Byzantine icon painter, and what role modern conservation science has in discovering his work, will be presented by art historian Jelena Todorović, PhD, and conservator advisor Daniela Korolija Crkvenjakov, PhD, in the Gallery of Matica Srpska on 4 March at 7 p.m., during the Art of Migration/Migration in Art exhibition, which is part of the Migrations ( https://kalendar.novisad2022.rs/seobe/ ) programme arch.\nEl Greco began his art career in Crete as a master of painting Orthodox icons of the post-Byzantine tradition with the influence of the Italian Renaissance. After spending ten years in Italy studying Renaissance painting, he went to Spain, where he stayed for the rest of his life and paint the most significant works. How El Greco became a great name of European art and a forerunner of modern painting from the Byzantine icon painter, and what role modern conservation science has in discovering his work, will be presented by art historian Jelena Todorović, PhD, and conservator advisor Daniela Korolija Crkvenjakov, PhD.\nThe exhibition explores the phenomenon of social migration by examining the historical and contemporary context, as well as the reasons and effects of migration on societies and individuals. The idea of the exhibition is to, in the time of the current world migration crisis, try to observe, examine and understand the phenomenon that affects every population and raises many ethical and cultural issues. Working on different levels – temporal, spatial, ethical and many others, the exhibition gives you the opportunity to re-examine your views and the views of society, and even the challenges of civilization in the 21st century through the language of art.\nTickets can be purchased at the GMS store.
