Early Language Learning Through Fairy Tales with MINI POLIGLOTINI

The ‘Early Language Learning Through Fairy Tales’ project within the Future of Europe programme arch and the ‘Fairy Tales of the Future’ cluster will be held in the Mlin Cultural station, from 9 until 13 May.

Dr. Mojca Stubelj Ars is an ecologist, a doctor of Environmental Sciences, international FCI judge, polyglot, children’s book writer and an artist from Nova Gorica in Slovenia with Serbian roots. Mojca lived in Serbia, Denmark and Hawaii in USA and will hold five workshops for primary school children by using experimental pedagogy. The workshops will be held in several languages: English, Serbian, and Slovenian.

On Monday, 9 May, the workshop in English and Serbian based on the book ‘The Secret of Happiness’ will be held. The workshop includes memory board games, dialogue, the development of brain maps on the topic of happiness;

On Tuesday, 10 May, the bilingual workshop in Serbian and English based on the book ‘The Fairytale of Luna: How a Small Pony Became Big?’ will tackle the topic of self-acceptance. The programme will also include a short puppet play, memory game and learning words through play.

Wednesday, 11 May, is reserved for the workshop in English and Serbian based on the book ‘ALOHA KAIMANA’, while children will learn about preserving nature through language games ‘We Love Sea – We Go to the Sea – Let’s Take Care of the Sea’.

On Thursday, 12 May, the workshop based on the book ‘My Dog’ will be held. Within the workshop, children will find out why life is better with a dog and play boar game with learning colours, numbers and fair play.

The last day of the programme will be on Friday, 13 May, when the author will hold a workshop that presents a connection between art, science, and technology, on the topic of emotions and mobile technology ‘Kresnička čustev / Emotion firefly’. The author developed the workshop with three colleagues within the ‘konS project’ financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.

Mojca Stubelj Ars has been writing and publishing children’s books for early language learning for seven years now under the brand MINI POLIGLOTINI. She published three multilingual books and a personalized bilingual book in several language combinations, which are aligned to create parallel texts.  She included the Serbian language in one of her books. It is a personalized bilingual book, in which the reader can choose two languages and the main character of the story. She created a short puppet play based on the book ‘The Fairytale of Luna’, which was performed across Slovenia before the Coronavirus. Furthermore, she holds numerous workshops regarding language learning for children of different ages across Slovenia. She organizes language camps for children up to 15 years in Trenta near Bovec each year. She is the mentor of workshops and assists workshops on art, science, and technology in Xcenter. In 2021 Mojca and her friend founded the festival ‘linGOcultura’, the festival of languages and cultures in Nova Gorica/Gorizia, which will be the European Capital of Culture 2025. The festival includes a three-day programme and focusses on the promotion of cultures trough the Italian, Slovenian, English and Spanish languages. The festival is intended to grow annually and in 2022 the Serbian and Friulian languages will be promoted as well.
