St Matthew Passion / Musical (Im)migrations and Bach’s Path
The ‘Orfelin’ Vocal Studio from Novi Sad will perform Bach’s St Matthew Passion within ‘Musical (Im)migrations and Bach’s Path’ and the Migrations programmer arch, at the Synagogue on 2 March at 8 p.m.
The famous baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach will walk through Novi Sad, ending his walk with a gala performance of a piece of spiritual music that marked the peak of his work – St Matthew Passion. In this endeavour, the Orfelin Vocal Studio from Novi Sad will join forces with the Belgrade Baroque Academy to trace Bach’s Novi Sad path as a kind of art laboratory, a synergy of different expressions such as plays about composers, concert performance with interpretations, intertwining vocal and instrumental, and a combination of baroque music and baroque dance.
This magnificent spiritual oratorio was written by Bach in 1727 and is considered one of the greatest works of Baroque sacred music. Bach used the text of the 26th and 27th chapters of the Gospel of Matthew from the Bible, which describes the Passion of the Lord Jesus Christ. ‘St Matthew Passion’, as well as other oratorio works by Bach, are performed very rarely in our region.
J. S. BACH: ST MATTHEW PASSION will be performed on historical instruments by the following participants: ‘Orfelin’ Choir (Novi Sad), conductor Tamara Adamov Petijević, ‘New Trinity Baroque Orchestra’, artistic direction: Predrag Gosta, Richard Resch (Germany), Jesus: Christian Hilz (Germany), soloists: soprano Radoslava Vorgić, Ivana Srbljan, mezzo-soprano (Croatia), Luigi Chiaramonte, tenor (Italy), Waltteri Torikka, bass (Finland), students of the Secondary Music School ‘Isidor Bajić’, Novi Sad.
Tickets are on sale at the Music Youth of Novi Sad (Katolička porta 2, tel. 021 / 452-344), on weekdays from 9 am to 1 pm, as well as on the day of the concert in the Synagogue hall from 6 pm until the beginning of the program.
