Koridori Concert
The City Chamber Orchestra ‘Camerata Novi Sad’ with soloist Nebojša Živković (marimba) will hold a concert called ‘Koridori’ (en. Corridors) within the ‘Migrations’ programme arch in the City Concert Hall in Novi Sad on 28 February at 8 p.m. The programme includes works by Novi Sad composers Slavko Šuklar and Aleksandra Vrebalov, as well as arrangements of traditional melodies from around the world.
The concert will also present the story of the migrations of the performers themselves.
– Our orchestra speaks in the best way about coexistence and cooperation, about the intertwining of different traditions and cultures of the people who have lived in this area for centuries. This is an opportunity to hear the story of our and our ancestors’ travels, as well as of migrations that never end, said Marko Miletić, the artistic director of the orchestra.
From the point of view of critics, Nebojša Živković is one of the most authentic and most expressive marimba players and percussionists of today, with a huge influence on the percussion scene as a composer and virtuoso. He has performed throughout Europe, America, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Russia, Scandinavia, with orchestras such as the Moscow Philharmonic, Munich Symphony Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Stuttgart Philharmonic, Hanover Radio Orchestra, Osaka Festival Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra and many others. He currently lives in Vienna, where he teaches percussion at the Conservatory. Every year, we can hear about 400 performances of his compositions in about 50 different countries around the world.
The City Chamber Orchestra Camerata Novi Sad was founded in 1988 under the auspices of the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. In the first stage of its work, under the artistic direction of cellist István Varga, it was considered one of the best orchestras in the former Yugoslavia, but in 1999, it shut down due to the situation in the country. In 2007, the cellist again, this time Marko Miletić, reunited the orchestra, with the idea of continuing the tradition, which was started by Varga.
From then until today, the orchestra has had a large number of performances with renowned local and foreign soloists, such as: Stefan Milenković, Roman Simović, Gérard Caussé, Wendy Warner, Dragan Đorđević, Boštjan Lipovšek, István Varga, Philip Grinberg, Laura Levai Aksin and Andreas Ottensamer and Darko Butorac, and performs at festivals and concert seasons throughout the region. Camerata often collaborates with artists outside the world of classical music, and some of the most notable are those with rockers such as Nele Karajlić, Bajaga, Rambo Amadeus and sevdalinka singer Božo Vrećo. The ensemble received great reviews, which often emphasize the impressiveness of expression, sound quality, but also programme concepts that Miletić always carefully creates and thematizes. Concerts are often engaged (anti-war, environmental, for gender equality, inclusive, etc.).
The concertmaster of the orchestra is Robert Lakatos, who is considered one of the leading violinists of his generation. Since last season, the orchestra is officially the city chamber orchestra and works under the auspices of the Cultural Centre of Novi Sad.
