Agi and Ema

The educational play for children “Agi and Emma” will be held on November 21 at the Barka Cultural Station, as part of Other? Europe.

Agi is a lonely boy who moves to a new house for the nineteenth time. Mom and Dad don’t pay much attention to him. If you were to ask Agi, he would tell you that Mom and Dad wouldn’t even notice him breaking things around the house! Fortunately, in the new house, Agi discovers an attic, and in the attic… Emma lives in the attic…

The ‘Agi and Ema’ play is a dramatization of the short novel of the same name by Igor Kolarov. The novel has become a children’s classic and has been part of the primary school reading list for years.

The play uses the so-called theatre of objects that is the contemporary world trend in puppetry, which is a novelty in Serbian theatre, given that puppetry is not studied at our academies. The theatre of objects is important for the children in the audience because it draws attention to the fact that anything can be a toy, that children can play with anything they have around them, and that objects can become new easily animated characters.

The play is primarily performed for the audience aged seven to thirteen, but also for parents and teachers. In this manner, students and teachers will get acquainted with a new theatrical expression, as well as an incentive for new readings and interpretations of the ‘Agi and Ema’ novel and theatre in general.
