BIO AWAKING: One Tree(s)

The final event of the international project Bio Awaking, the initiative “One Tree(S)”, will take place on Sunday, October 19, at 4 p.m. in the premises of SKUP in the District.

The program includes three inspiring lectures exploring different aspects of the interrelationship between nature, science, and art: interspecies heritage – Olga Timurgalieva (HK/RS/RUS); the translocation of living laboratory agents into cultural spaces – Marie Tatjana Niederleithinger (AUT/DE); and the mutual interaction of fungi and plants and the importance of mycelium in terrestrial ecosystems – Dr. Milana Rakić (RS).

The workshop “Microworld of Molds”, led by BioStArt program participant Milica Rukavina (RS), will give participants the opportunity to gain insight into the hidden life surrounding us, while the performative tree-planting action will transform the act of planting into a collective gesture of renewal and solidarity with nature.

In addition to the program, the audience will have the opportunity to view two art installations created by participants of the BioStArt program during the project. The evening will conclude with a screening of a short documentary film that captures key moments and outcomes of the project, offering an overview of the activities carried out within Bio Awaking, as well as an explanation of what bio art is and an insight into its latest transformations.

The Bio Awaking project was initiated by the Reaktor Association, in collaboration with the Center for the Promotion of Science, the Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture Foundation (Serbia), the Greenways Association (Bosnia and Herzegovina), the Kersnikova Institute (Slovenia), and the Universal Research Institute (Croatia). Conceived as an initiative bringing together a broad professional, artistic, and activist community, Bio Awaking aims—through education, innovation, and collaboration—to address ecological challenges through new media art practices focused on bio art.

Through a series of events such as the Bioart Forum, DIY online workshops, study visits to Ljubljana and Dubrovnik, exhibitions in Novi Sad as part of the Kaleidoscope of Culture festival, and at Pecka Outdoor Festival (BiH) with live workshops, the project seeks to foster dialogue, encourage participation, and bring innovative approaches to today’s ecological issues.

During the project, following the BioArt Forum, an e-publication was successfully completed, which can be accessed and downloaded – here.

The event is finished.
