Chalaban
The Moroccan band Chalaban will perform in Hall 1 of the Novi Sad Fair on 9 March at 8 p.m. as part of the Migrations programme arch.
The Chalaban band was founded in Budapest by Moroccan musician Said Tichiti in 1999. They are very active on the world music scene in Central and Eastern Europe and represent the original mix of Moroccan music and the musical traditions of Central Europe, Balkan and Roma styles.
The leader of the band, Said Tichiti, is originally from the city of Guelmim in the south of Morocco. He completed his higher studies at the Drama Institute in Rabat. At the beginning of his musical adventure, he chose to work on the musical styles of his paternal and maternal origins: Gnawa, Ganga, Hassani and Guedra. This work goes beyond folk vision to create a merger between the instruments and melodies of the south and north, east and west. The result is that every Chalaban concert/album is full of desert and spirituality caressed by the melancholic melodies of Central Europe that end with a breath of trance. Chalaban has 6 albums so far: Moroccan Nomad, Moroccan Spring, Al Baraka, Nejdeb, Hashish Freee and in October 2017 the band presented their latest album Gleimim, at a sold-out concert at the Palace of Arts in Budapest.
The partner of the Migration of Souls program is the Novi Sad Fair, and the companies Globos osiguranje and Dijamant DOO also provided support.
The entrance is free of charge.
