Concert by Dušan Bogdanović / Vojvodina Classical Guitar Fest

The night with Dušan Bogdanović will be held within the Migrations programme arch at the Vojvodina Guitar Fest on 12 February. The concert starts in the Egység Cultural Station at 7 p.m.

Described as ‘a composer of masterful craft with genuine clarity and purity of vision’ (Guitar Review), Dušan Bogdanović developed a personal synthesis of contemporary classical, jazz and ethnic music. His work includes more than 200 published compositions. He also wrote music for solo guitar, chamber ensembles, orchestra and multimedia, as well as more than 20 CDs. At the beginning of his career, he received the first prize at the Jeunesses Musicales Competition in Belgrade and the first prize at the International Competition in Geneva in 1975. Two years later, Bogdanović gave a highly acclaimed debut recital in Carnegie Hall.

The development of the guitar in Novi Sad during the 20th century was overshadowed by its flourishing in other cities of Yugoslavia, especially Zagreb, Sarajevo and later, Belgrade. Guitarists such as Spiro Mytiakis and Jovan Kolarski lived and worked in Novi Sad. Thanks to them, the guitar was present at concert stages, within the Cultural and Artistic Society ‘Svetozar Marković’.

It wasn’t until 1979 that the ‘Isidor Bajić’ Music School began offering guitar lessons, with Ana Margaret-Vučak as a first pedagogue, who gradually managed to build foundations for further development of this art with her pioneering work.

Today, Novi Sad is the centre of guitar art where new generations of guitarists, who achieve very notable success both in the field of pedagogy and as performers, have been formed.

Due to the pandemic situation, the number of visitors is limited.
