Concert – European Days of Jewish Culture / Synagogue – A Meeting Place

Hashira choir, Maayan Dance Company and Kol Shel K’fir quartet will perform in the Synagogue on 19 June, with the beginning at 5 p.m., within the Fortress of Peace programme arch.

At the beginning of the programme, as a Terraforming guest, Mr François Moss, president of the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage, will announce the opening of the ‘European Days of Jewish Culture’. The audience will have an opportunity to see the concert by Hashira choir, Maayan Dance Company and Kol Shel K’fir klezmer ensemble within the ‘European Days of Jewish Culture / Synagogue – A Meeting Place’, organised by the Jewish Community Novi Sad.

‘Europan Days of Jewish Culture’ is a cultural event that is celebrated across Europe. The goal is to celebrate the activities dedicated to Jewish culture and present them to the public, with the intention to reveal cultural and historical heritage of Jews. The event ‘European Days of Jewish Culture’ is coordinated by the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage. The manifestation aims to promote and raise awareness about Jewish culture across Europe, believing that increased awareness about the culture, tradition and life of different communities who live in the same societies and cities helps people to meet someone new and, in that manner, strengthen the communication and dialogue between different cultures in the country.

Music and dance meeting in the form of a concert organised by the Jewish Community Novi Sad, aims to present a part of today’s Novi Sad Jewish cultural scene with a joint performance by three renowned ensembles. The subtle choice of programmes and intertwining performances of these ensembles will highlight the richness and diversity of Jewish choral music, exceptionally creative choreographies to exotic music, as well as the unique consonances of different meridians that make klezmer music so emotional and dynamic. The audience will have a chance to get acquainted with the specific characteristics of this unique music and dance creation. At the end of the concert, the audience will have the opportunity to learn to sing a catchy Jewish song. With its acoustics and spiritual ambience, the Synagogue (11 Jevrejska Street, Novi Sad), in which the concert will be held, will complete this unforgettable experience, which will remain with the audience long after.

The event ‘European Days of Jewish Culture’ is a continuation of the programme ‘From Raid to Auschwitz – Novi Sad City of Culture of Remembrance’ organised by Terraforming with partners from Novi Sad and numerous partner organisations across Europe (more information at www.terraforming.org), as part of the ‘Fortress of Peace’ programme arch.
