Blind Spot / Drama of the Serbian National Theater in the European Capital of Culture – Novi Sad 2022
The Serbian National Theater brings us the play ‘Blind Spot’ on 13 May 2022, within the Future of Europe programme arch.
Theatre lovers will have the opportunity to enjoy the ancient tragedy staged by Romanian director Andrei Majeri.
‘Blind Spot’ is a modern reading of a classic and the merging of three ancient tragedies ‘The Bacchae’,’ Antigone’ and ‘Oedipus Rex’ into one play, but also, after more than fifty years, the return of tour theatre’s Drama to the ancient tragedy. Albeit thematically diverse, ‘The Bacchae’,’ Antigone’ and ‘Oedipus Rex’ will combine into a dramatically meaningful and theatrically very modern drama based on family, with its breakup, exile and home return.
The young but already very well-known and recognized Romanian director recommended himself with extraordinary directing and present-day reading of classics in the great national theatres of Romania. It will be his first conducting outside his home country, and the engagement at the Serbian National Theatre will unquestionably be the breakthrough for this very talented director on the European theatre scene.
Andrej Mageri has won several national awards. With his ‘Little Court Ladies’, performed at the Bucharest National Theater Festival, he ranked among the most relevant young directors in the region.
