Exhibition: Savka Subotić – Majka Svog Roda

You can see the multimedia exhibition Savka Subotić – Majka Svog Roda at the windows of the City Library in Novi Sad at Dunavska Street 1 from 11 March to 1 June.

The exhibition was implemented on the occasion of the 190th anniversary of the birth of this unique woman in Serbian history, whose name is synonymous with women’s freedom and emancipation, preservation, improvement and affirmation of women’s material heritage, as well as for national freedom and faith in dedicated work as a prerequisite for the progress of society and community. Savka Subotić was a woman ahead of her time, a lady thanks to whom the world got to know Serbian style and the Serbian salon as an artistic expression of superior aesthetics. The style, as well as the power of women’s heritage represented by handicrafts, weaving and carpet making, was discovered by Savka Subotić during her stay in the house at 1 Dunavska, the place where the central building of the City Library in Novi Sad is located today. With the prepared programme, which will be available to visitors for almost three months, we pay tribute to this great woman, the power of her ideas and the merits she owed her nation.

Multimedia content, as well as presentations of video material that will present the life and work of Savka Subotić, along with an accompanying exhibition of handicrafts and Serbian embroidery created at the beginning of the 20th century, will be available to visitors at Dunavska 1 from 11 to 15 March during the working hours of the mentioned branch. The multimedia exhibition Savka Subotić – Majka Svog Roda was implemented through the inter-institutional cooperation of the City Library in Novi Sad, the City Museum of Novi Sad and the production company In Vivo. The authors of the exhibition are Dragana Drobac Milošević, Dušanka Marković and Mirjana Grdinić. The opening of the exhibition is on Monday, 11 March 2024, at the City Library in Novi Sad (1 Dunavska Street), at noon.
