From Noise to Sound – Concert
The concert within the project ‘From Noise to Sound’ will be held in the Unification Park on 1 July, within the Fortress of Peace programme arch.
The next day, on July 2, at 7 pm, an exhibition of the same name by sculptor Nikola Macura will be opened in the Museum of Vojvodina.
‘From Noise to Sound’ project, a project by Novi Sad sculptor Nikola Macura, is the fruit of many years of research into the relation between sculpture and sound. It focuses on the redesigning and transformation of weapons and objects of war into musical instruments. The project’s first event is a concert of instruments made from military waste materials, within the NEO festival. The concert will feature musicians from Serbia in collaboration with Austrian artists and organisation Aporon 21 from Graz, performing a composition that blends a Serbian and Austrian march.
It is an overture to the main event, i.e. the exhibition in the Museum of Vojvodina. The project’s cultural-political meaning lies in its affirmation of the idea of demilitarization, through artistic intervention on military objects, through which the artist hopes to demonstrate the urgent need to reduce the use of military arsenal in processes established to maintain peace.
Nikola Macura, Milica Svirac, Boris Mihaljčić, Viktor Palić and Werner Mandlberger will perform at the concert.
The programme is supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum.
