In the Fire of Worlds: Ivo Andrić, A European Life
The adaptation for a staged reading of the book by Michael Martens, ‘In the Fire of Worlds: Ivo Andrić, A European Life’, is authored by writer Muharem Bazdulj, one of the most talented Bosnian writers, translators, and journalists. The staged reading will be performed within the Migrations programme arch, in the Master Hall of the Novi Sad Fair, on 8 March at 4 p.m.
This event aims to bring the audience closer to the research of Michael Martens, that is, to propagate, through theatrical form, not only the book but also the entire ideological structure that is discussed in the book. It is a multimedia project that includes the audience in different ways.
A series of videos were created from historical material found in the region of former Yugoslavia, which refers to specific periods and events related to the life of Ivo Andrić, and which are described in the book, as a part of the project. Along with Muharem Bazdulj, Gordana Pilipović is also participating in the project, on behalf of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
We emphasize the considerable interest in Andrić’s work throughout Europe, and from a German and broader European perspective map out the context of Serbian participation in European culture – not through concepts of ‘the exotic Balkans’, but rather as explicitly rooted in the matrix of European culture.
Partner of the Migration of Souls programme is the Novi Sad Fair, and the companies Globos osiguranje and Dijamant DOO also provided support.
