Multiculturalism of Novi Sad: The National Communities of Vojvodina

One-day scientific conference ‘Multiculturalism of Novi Sad: The National Communities of Vojvodina’, organised by the Regional Scientific Center of the Institute of Philosophy and Social Theory (University of Belgrade) and in cooperation with the Forum for education, cooperation, affirmation and support in social society (FESAP) will be held in the Svilara Cultural Station on 12 February 2022 at 10 a.m.The programme, including the conference on national communities of Vojvodina and the round table ‘Glass Ceiling’ on a specific position of women in certain national communities, will focus on the multi-ethnic, multilingual and multiconfessional character of the region, with a special focus on the role of diversity in Novi Sad.

In accordance with its tradition, the Regional Scientific Centre intends to make academic and institutional knowledge available to a wider public, by deepening the historic and cultural awareness and critical self-reflection through engaged discussion. Coherence and wide-ranging programme of the project will enable intercultural dialogue and improvement in solidarity strategies, without prejudice and conflicts. The project will also focus on fundamental European values such as pluralism, preserving the richness of cultural heritage and constructive dialogue. The project will show how diversity, when it comes to experiencing ethnic identities in Vojvodina, and complex combination of minority identities and practices, i.e. institutional mechanisms have been adopted.

Jovan Komšić, Katinka Beretka, Đerđ Serbhorvat and Viktoria Toma will discuss the topic ‘Dimensions of Minority Groups and Multiculturalism Dilemmas’, while Ankica Dragin, Aleksandar Horvat and Zoran Janjetović will talk about national communities of Novi Sad.
