Music Bridges
‘Music Bridges’ will connect artists from Serbia and the former Yugoslav republics, who will perform in Novi Sad, Sremski Karlovci, Beočin and Irig from 17 to 20 February. The project, organized by the Association of Creative and Educational Centre ‘Music Atelier’, is being implemented within the Migrations programme arch.
The cultural and social benefits of the Music Bridges project are based on the universal language of music and the opportunities for networking and cooperation it provides. The Association of Creative-Educational Centre ‘Music Atelier’ from Novi Sad will gather artists from the former Yugoslav republics (Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia), in order to encourage the nurturing of art music and composers from these neighbouring areas.
Concerts will be held according to the following schedule:
• 17 February, Cultural Centre in Beočin, 6 p.m.
• 18 February, Serbian Reading Room in Irig, 6 p.m.
• 19 February, Karlovci Grammar School, Sremski Karlovci, 7 p.m.
• 20 February, Synagogue in Novi Sad, 7 p.m.
In order to achieve intercultural and transcultural dialogue, music works representing the common world and European heritage will be performed at various locations in Novi Sad, Sremski Karlovci, Irig and Beočin.
By emphasizing the latest migrant crisis, it will also present the artistic music of Syria by the composer Zaid Jabri, and thus introduce this year’s participants to the artistic music of this country.
In addition to Zaid Jabri, the composers who will compose works for the string ensemble ‘Violint’ and ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ are Aleksandra Stepanović (Serbia), Davor Bobić (Croatia) and Davor Lončar Petrović (Slovenia).
The music material from the concert will be printed in a joint collection and distributed to all music and cultural institutions of these four countries.
The programme will be complemented by a lecture by musicologist Bojan Jovanović on the topic of ‘Migration and Music’, and workshops on ethno instruments from the mentioned cultures are also planned.
