New Era: Artistic Discourses on Social and Climate Change

The group intermedia exhibition ‘New Era: Artistic Discourses on Social and Climate Changes’ will be opened in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina on Friday, 22 March, at 7 p.m. Interested visitors will be able to see it until 12 May.

The exhibition will present the works of 12 artists and artistic groups from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia, who in their creative practices are consistently and long-term dedicated to the relationship between man and nature, providing an artistic commentary and response to one of the most current topics of contemporary society – ecology, climate and social changes and environmental protection.

The curators of the exhibition are Mladen Banjac (MSURS), Miha Colner (GBJ) and Sanja Kojić Mladenov (MSUV), and the artists whose works will be exhibited are Igor Bošnjak, Isidora Branković, diSTRUKTURA, Jovan Došenović, Dejan Marković, Marija Marković, DNLM, Bojan Mrđenović, PLATEAURESIDUE, Helena Tahir, Nikola Tomić, and Adrienn Újhazi. The exhibition is the result of a project implemented by the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republika Srpska from Banja Luka, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina from Novi Sad and the Božidar Jakac Gallery – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art from Kostanjevica na Krki. The ‘New Era’ exhibition was designed to be presented in Novi Sad, Banja Luka and Kostanjevica na Krki, which continues the multi-year successful cooperation between these institutions that build a dynamic contemporary art scene in the region.

The selected works bring an essential consideration of human intervention on the environment and social phenomena that affect climate change, and provide a special insight into environmental problems from the aspect of contemporary art. In this manner, issues of social responsibility were raised by presenting a wide range of environmental topics – from the mutual interaction of living organisms and their communities to their interaction with the environment. The topics that the artists deal with are universal and primarily relate to the destruction of the environment, raising awareness of climate and social changes, problems brought about by modern technologies, as well as their impact on society and the individual.

At the exhibition ‘New Era: Artistic Discourses on Social and Climate Change’, visitors will be able to see works in various media from painting to video works, installations to new media arts and bio and ecological practices as a special expression in contemporary art. Implementing a large group exhibition of artists from the region opens up the possibility of creating a unique platform for cultural and artistic dialogue and thus positions the local art scene in the European context.

The exhibitions will be accompanied by a series of programmes with panel discussions and the production of podcasts that will focus on the project goals.

‘New Era: Artistic Discourses on Social and Climate Change’ is part of the ‘Culture and Creativity for the Western Balkans’ (CC4WBs) project funded by the European Union, which aims to improve the dialogue in the Western Balkans by strengthening the cultural and creative sector and developing its potential for socio-economic impact in this region.

The event is finished.
