Novi Sad – A Modern City

The multimedia exhibition ‘Novi Sad – A Modern City’ will be opened on the first floor of SPENS, in Hall 8 (entrance from Radnička Street), on 12 February. The exhibition will last until 26 February, and it is realized within the Migrations programme arch.

Novi Sad – A Modern City is a multimedia architectural exhibition that will represent the development of Novi Sad in the light of industrialization and infrastructural changes. It will also represent new places in the city, as well as the places where the social lives of Novi Sad’s citizens were established in the second half of the 20th century.

The project explores, discovers, and interprets all the narratives about the modernization of Novi Sad, so that, deprived of ideological determinants, we connect all the links in the chain of the spatial development of the city. All the key processes that created the modernity of Novi Sad will be explained through six stories followed by previously unseen, archival recordings of the city’s construction.

The main content of the exhibition is a summary of many years of research into the modernization of Novi Sad, tailored to a wider audience, while the publication accompanying this project will be a valuable contribution to the spatial research of Novi Sad. Novi Sad – A Modern City is a project that does not look back with nostalgia and idealization, but with the desire to understand the processes that shaped our city, as it is today. More importantly, in this way, we can better understand what kind of Novi Sad we want to leave to future generations.

The project was implemented by Baza: a platform for spatial practice in partnership with the Ephemera Collective and the Association of Novi Sad Architects (DaNS).

The authors of the project are: Dragana Konstantinović, PhD, Slobodan Jović, Maja Momirov, Miljana Zeković, PhD, Višnja Žugić, PhD, and Bojan Stojkov.
