Open days

We will have the opportunity to get to know Novi Sad better on February 3 and 4, when Open Days will be organized in cultural institutions and other business entities throughout the city, and all interested fellow citizens and guests of the city will be able to visit numerous exhibitions, plays, and concerts completely free of charge, to watch a movie or to learn something new about their city by walking around the center and the fortress.

This manifestation is held as part of the celebration of the Day of the City of Novi Sad, which received the status of a free royal city on February 1, 1748, when Empress Maria Theresa signed the Charter. The then settlement of Petrovaradin šanac was given the status of a free city and a new name that it still bears today. This privilege was obtained thanks to citizens who were eager for freedom and who bought this status from the empress for 80,000 forints. Precisely because of this, this date is celebrated as Novi Sad City Day.

The tourism organization of the City of Novi Sad, together with cultural institutions and other economic subjects, is organizing a wide open house on February 3 and 4 on the occasion of the City Day. Then all interested fellow citizens and guests of the city will be able to visit numerous exhibitions, plays, concerts, watch a movie or walk around the center and the fortress to learn something new about their city completely free of charge. The goal of the action is to present the cultural and touristic offer of our city to the women and men of Novi Sad, so that they can feel the spirit of Novi Sad in the right way, as future ambassadors of their city.

Free promotional tourist tours organized in cooperation with the Association of Tourist Guides of Novi Sad will be in Serbian, and will be held according to the following schedule:

Saturday, February 3:

Tours around the city center will be held at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m., and the tour of the Petrovaradin fortress will be held at 12:00 p.m.

Sunday, February 4:

The tour of the city center will be held at 10:00 a.m., and the tours of the Petrovaradin fortress will be held at 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

During February 3rd and 4th, “Open Days” will be held in numerous cultural institutions, which will allow visitors to familiarize themselves with the cultural offer of our city for free.

Museum of Vojvodina

During the “Open Days” action, visitors to the Museum of Vojvodina will have the opportunity to visit the permanent exhibition and the thematic exhibition “Glass”.

The permanent exhibition presents the past of the territory of today’s Vojvodina from prehistory to the middle of the 20th century through three segments – archaeology, history and ethnology. A walk through the old city street, enjoying the view of the famous three gilded Roman helmets and other exhibits at the exhibition can be additionally completed by using the new audio-visual guide that is available in Serbian, English and Russian.

The interdisciplinary exhibition “Glass” brings to visitors a phenomenological story about this material that has amazed us for centuries, and with its physical and aesthetic properties awakens the imagination of creators from prehistoric times to the present day. Harlampi’s map is available for visitors who come to the Museum of Vojvodina accompanied by the youngest. With the help of the map, the exploration of the permanent installation becomes interactive, creative, dynamic and allows you to spend quality time in the company of the little ones.

Note: The working hours of the Museum of Vojvodina will be from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on both days, and entry will be free for all visitors.

Matica Srpska Gallery

One of the richest and oldest museum institutions in Serbia will present two current exhibitions to art and culture lovers. On Saturday, February 3 at 10:00 a.m., a guided tour of the “Paja Jovanović and Gustav Klimt” exhibition will be organized, which you can visit by clicking here, while a free guided tour of the “Seafarer” exhibition will be organized on February 4 at 10:00 a.m. can be registered by clicking here.

Note: In addition to the above-mentioned expert interpretations, which will be free of charge, at other times, as well as for regular guided tours, tickets to the Matica Srpska Gallery will be charged at the price of 300 dinars for the exhibition “Paja Jovanović and Gustav Klimt”, 300 dinars for the exhibition ” Pomorišac”, i.e. 500 dinars for both exhibitions. Rajko Mamuzić Fine Art Gallery Gift Collection

On both days, February 3 and 4, at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., guided tours will be organized through the permanent exhibition, which is organized on three levels of the Gallery. The chronology of the artistic events of the sixth and seventh decades of the last century on the Serbian art scene is presented. Through the permanent exhibition, the results of all the museum’s activities and activities are interwoven: research, conservation, presentation and education. In the basement of the Gift Collection, portraits created in the late forties and early fifties of the last century are presented, most often within the framework of the “Zadar Group”. Applications for the visit are not required, it is enough to show up at the location at the written time.

Note: For the birthday weekend of February 3rd and 4th, the Rajko Mamuzić Gift Collection Fine Art Gallery will open its doors from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and admission will be free.

City Library

During February 1 and 2, all interested citizens and tourists can view the virtual exhibition “Serbian Vojvodina” by scanning the QR code on the glass of the City Library in Novi Sad (Dunavska 1). A lecture on the historical development and work of the library will be organized on Saturday, February 3, starting at 11:00 a.m. Those interested in teaching and guiding through the library can apply by clicking here.

Cinema “Arena Cineplex”

For all movie buffs, Arena Cineplex is giving away free tickets for screenings of the movie Napoleon on February 3 and 4 on the occasion of City Day. Both days, screenings are at 5:00 PM in Hall 2.

City concert hall

Everyone interested will have the opportunity to enjoy a concert in the City Concert Hall on February 4 from 8:00 p.m., which will be prepared by some of the best students of the Academy of Arts from Novi Sad on the occasion of the “Open Days” campaign. Entrance to the concert will be free, and the complete program will be announced in the coming days.

Serbian National Theater

As part of the action “Open Days”, the audience will be able to enjoy the opera “La Traviata” and the drama “Ujej” at the Serbian National Theater, which will be performed on February 3. The opera “Traviata” will be played on the Jovan Đorđević stage at 7:00 p.m., while the play “Ujej” starts at 7:30 p.m. on the Pera Dobrinović stage.

For this occasion, 10 tickets for the opera “La Traviata” and four tickets for the play “Ujez” will be distributed. The prize competition will be organized in the coming days on the Instagram account of the Tourism Organization of the City of Novi Sad.

Youth Theater

On the occasion of City Day, the Youth Theater will open its doors on February 1 to children and parents who would like to see the play “Who Said Meow?” for free. 826. In addition to this, the Youth Theater has also prepared free tickets for the play “While I feed you and clothe you”, which will be played on February 3 from 7:30 p.m. The show is recommended for audiences over the age of 16, and free tickets require a reservation by calling the box office: 021/521-826. Every hour, from 13:00 to 19:00, a professional lecture will be organized on the mentioned topics.
