Opening / Alternative in the Shop Window

The Alternative in the Shop Window’ exhibition will present the last 100 years of a subculture through fashion, and its opening is scheduled for 22 November at 8 p.m., at Fabrika in the District.

The exhibition will be available in the District and shop windows across Novi Sad until 21 December.

This display consists of stylised combinations of authentic clothing items from private collections of citizens and collections of cultural institutions and designer-conceived and thematically shaped models of the designer duo Tijana and Mila Popović. Ljiljana Dinić, curator of the Theatre Museum of Vojvodina, and designer and stylist Dušan Đurković also participated in the project.

The exhibition will be set up in several locations around the city. The exhibited outfits will present ten directions in the clothing of the people of Novi Sad, characteristic of the second half of the 20th century, and can be seen at the following locations:

– Promenada Shopping Mall (5 styles, 10 outfits)

– District (2 styles, 4 outfits)

– Piazza Italia (1 style, 2 outfits)

– Bulevar Books (1 style, 2 outfits)

– Liberty Square (1 style, 2 outfits)

As part of the official opening of the exhibition there will be a discussion on the topic Way of dressing as an expression of belonging to the subcultural movement / Novi Sad, the second half of the 20th century.

At the discussion, the following will speak: Anđelija Terzić, art historian and artist, Igor Todorović, author of the book Novi Sad Punk Version and editor of the SKC Fabrika program, Ljiljana Čenejac, representative of the 80s punk scene, and Stefan Žarić, fashion historian.

The discussion will be led by journalist Vesna Farkaš and stylist Srđan Šveljo.

In Fabrika, as an accompanying programme of the exhibition, 5 units will be exhibited:

Fashion vignettes – several representative outfits, characteristic of the alternative fashion scene of Novi Sad in the second half of the 20th century, which will be worn by our young fellow citizens in the role of volunteer mannequins.

Srđan Švelj’s Collages – inspired by the alternative fashion scene of the second half of the 20th century.

Dragana Krstonošić’s fashion editorial – photos from the fashion collection ‘Witches on Holiday’ from 1992 by Dragana Krstonošić Dada

A selection of artistic photos and sketches by Vera Lajko in the field of fashion design and the avant-garde scene of Novi Sad in the second half of the 70s

A selection of photos and drawings by Anđelija Terzić from a private archive – the avant-garde of the Novi Sad scene
