Prisoners of Surprise
The concert of Prisoners of Surprise trio will be held on Music Stage 2, in the District, on 4 September, as part of the Kaleidoscope of Culture opening.
For the last year, this trio has been working on music that is created during improv sessions. They are connected by similar aesthetic sensibility and the striving to create music that is neither free improvisation nor jazz, but an intersection of their affinities, with notable classical elements derived from Indian and African traditional music. Through meditative elements-driven improvisation, they explore what happens when all their aforementioned interests come together, and when the way of working is not burdened by the pressure of being moulded into one genre. The spirit of free improv and jazz is also reflected in the form and ambience that is created in the moment, and it escalates during the members’ interaction.
The project is part of the ‘Artists. Now!’ national call for artists, launched by the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation within the Kaleidoscope of Culture.
From the very beginning, the implementation of the ‘Artists. Now!’ call has been supported by IDEA, which is part of the Mercator-S company.
