Remember Forever: Aleksandar Tišma | Kaleidoscope of culture 2024
Alongside the exhibition ‘The Use of Man,’ another exhibition at the Tišma Pavilion reflects on the imposing creativity of the author. Discover the factual exhibition titled ‘Remember Forever: Aleksandar Tišma’ in the District at the Menza facility on 13 and 14 September 2024. The exhibition is open for viewing from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10 AM to 2 PM and from 4 PM to 8 PM.
Words from the authors:
’I know if I write, it will be worthwhile, but only if I write honestly – the truth.’ Tišma’s words are a promise, primarily to all the people of Novi Sad. However, Tišma long outgrew the spaces of the city where he spent most of his life – fleeing its narrow, inhospitable, suspicious atmosphere to the France, Germany, and Switzerland he had dreamed of since his youth, only to return again and again. He mapped it ruthlessly, sincerely, and at the same time, passionately and lovingly in his prose, introducing it to world libraries.
Aleksandar Tišma, the reliable witness of Novi Sad’s January 1942.
Tišma, the uncompromising chronicler of the bloody slush on Novi Sad’s streets in the post-January days.
Mirjana Frau Gardinovački, the author of the exhibition
The documentary-multimedia exhibition ‘Remember Forever: Aleksandar Tišma’ is an homage to a writer whose work is more appreciated in Europe than in his own country, thus rightly earning him the title of a great European writer.
A chronicler of human fates and inhuman actions, Tišma described human destinies with a distinctive moral palette, focusing on the question: are we the subjects or the objects of our own lives?
The centennial of Aleksandar Tišma’s birth is an ideal occasion to reflect once again on his imposing work and, on behalf of his city of Novi Sad, attempt to repay the author of ‘The Use of Man’ for all these years of silence and neglect.
Milena Graovac, the author of the exhibition
