Rumena Bužarovska | Kaleidoscope of culture 2024

As part of the Literature Week of the seventh Kaleidoscope of Culture and Tišma Pavilion, a conversation with renowned author Rumena Bužarovska will take place in the District on 13 September. The event will be held at the Biro facility, offering literature lovers the chance to learn about the work of one of the most prominent literary figures of today.

The conversation will be moderated by Ivan Bevc.

Rumena Bužarovska (1981, Skopje, North Macedonia) is a writer, translator, and social commentator. She is the author of four short story collections translated into fifteen languages, with her book Moj Muž standing out, having achieved great success in Europe and adapted into six theatre performances (Skopje, Ljubljana, Athens, Belgrade, Zagreb, and Budapest). She is also the author of two non-fiction books: the essay collection Pored Boga, Amerika (2024) and a study on humor in contemporary American and Macedonian short prose (2012).
As a translator, Bužarovska has translated works by famous authors such as J.M. Coetzee, Lewis Carroll, Truman Capote, Flannery O’Connor, and Iain Reid from English into Macedonian. In 2016, she was selected as one of Europe’s Ten New Voices, and in 2017 she won the Edo Budiša regional award. She was a fellow in the Fall Residency at the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa in 2018.

Rumena is also a co-initiator and co-founder of the PeachPreach storytelling event for women in North Macedonia and co-hosts the podcast Radio Mileva. She is also a professor of American literature and translation at the University of Skopje.
