Stevo Grabovac | Kaleidoscope of culture 2024

As part of the seventh Literature Week of the Kaleidoscope of Culture and Tišma Pavilion, the acclaimed writer Stevo Grabovac will be arriving in the District. He will have a conversation with moderator Jovana Reba at the Biro facility on Saturday, 14 September, at 8 p.m.

Stevo Grabovac was born on 9 November 1978 in Slavonski Brod. He grew up and finished high school in Bosanski Brod. He studied at the Faculty of Technology in Banja Luka. He published a collection of poems Stanica Nepostojećih Vozova in 2007. His first novel, Mulat Albino Komarac (2019), was shortlisted for the NIN Award. For his second novel, Poslije Zabave (2023), he received the NIN Award for Best Novel of the Year. He lives and works in Banja Luka.

About the novel Poslije Zabave:

A novel about a father, a novel about a crime, a novel about family, a novel about friendship, a novel about growing up, a total novel. With a topic as large as duality in our literature, as seen in the work of Danilo Kiš, the writer frames thematically diverse segments that make this book a cross-section of a life. These highlighted moments are framed by the duality of father and son, the figure of the first writer and the one who inherits—talent, writerly sensitivity, and legacy, the command to confront injustices with an open heart and a typewriter. Poslije Zabave begins with one sentence, one motto, an essential and crucial quote that gives color and tone to the entire narrative: ‘And then the shitstorm begins.’ As Roberto Bolaño once said, he illuminated the path for another writer. And Stevo Grabovac’s storm is vast and terrifying in its attempt to deconstruct memory, a series of recollections (or illusions) that, once called upon, both save and strip bare consciousness to its impotence.

On 13 and 14 September, the District will transform into a grand open-air multimedia museum dedicated to Aleksandar Tišma. In addition to exhibitions, speech programmes, performances, workshops, and book exchanges, we will also see stage programmes that will bring Tišma’s work to life on the streets of the District.

We will witness performative installations from Knjiga o Blamu, Bez Krika, Najgore Noći, Nasilje, Kapo, Upotreba Čoveka, Koje Volimo, Za Crnom Devojkom, Ibikina Kuća, Vere i Zavere, Dnevnik, Povrataka Miru, Oko Svoje Ose, Škola Bezbožništva, Sećaj se Večkrat na Vali and Cena Laži.

Admission is free.
