SUBA Confessions

The exhibition titled SUBA Confessions will be set up in Liman Park, on Mast Square, from 23 June to 20 September.

An exhibition of artistic flags will be set up in Liman Park on the occasion of birthday of the pioneer of electronic music in this area, Mitar Subotić Suba. The exhibition symbolically speaks of his extraordinary philanthropy and the rich legacy of the Mitar Subotić Suba Foundation. On the Mast Square, photos, visuals and drawings will be displayed, which, intertwining with the wind and the voices of birds, will create a specific and constantly different soundscape with the music of The Dreambird, returning us to the very source of Suba’s artistic creation.

The ecological ambient sound projection The Dreambird was first staged by Suba in Novi Sad, on the banks of the Danube on 13 June 1987. The speakers were placed above the ground, to enhance the interaction with sounds from the natural environment, while bird chirping intertwined with electronic tones. At the same time, The Dreambird recalled a time when recordings of the environment were discovered as forms of music, emphasizing the archetypal connections between man and nature. The space on the river bank was filled with sound for twelve hours, and the entire happening was completed with sound, light and laser effects. The music for this installation was recorded by Mitar Subotić Suba and Goran Vejvoda in Paris in 1987, using the Japanese CD Bird Island Seychelles as a musical template. The template was with field recordings of the sounds of exotic birds and sea waves, on top of which they recorded other musical layers. Although it was not originally planned for this work to be published, the publishing house Paulinas, within the Catholic nunnery, released the recording of The Dreambird by Mitar Subotić Suba and Goran Vejvoda in a small edition as meditation music. It was Suba’s first music project in Brazil. The Dreambird album was released by Brazilian label Luga Alto in 2022 using master recordings from the Subotić family archive. Studio Sometimes Allways designed the edition with drawings by Arthur Longo, a French snowboarder and artist.

The event is finished.
