The 39 Steps

The 39 Steps play will be performed in the Youth Theatre on 19 April at 8 p.m.

The 39 Steps play has as many as three sources: based on John Buchan’s adventure novel from 1915, an iconic British film was created that was directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1935, and the theatre adaptation of the film was made by Patrick Barlow in 2005. Thus, different manuscripts and the poetics of a novelist, an iconic director and a contemporary actor and comedian intertwine in the theatre piece

What is specific about the play is that an almost impossible thing happens in it – the ingenious films of the creator of suspense are shown through theatre means. Two principles that are so different – cinematic and theatrical – clash here, but this is exactly the value and enormous wealth of the play. To make matters even more complicated, four nerds play over 30 characters in the play and use imaginative means and actions to draw the audience into a fast and crazy game dominated by wacky Monty Python humour.
