The House We Built in the 90s Exhibition

The House We Built in the 90s exhibition will be held in the Biro facility in the District from 8 September to 8 October, as part of the opening of the sixth Kaleidoscope of Culture in Novi Sad. The exhibition will be part of the multimedia event Unbreakable Ties, which the Novi Sad audience will have the opportunity to see until 8 October. Admission is free of charge.

After the Opening of the Kaleidoscope of Culture, from September 10, this exhibition will be open on weekdays from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Mondays and Tuesdays, the studio in the District will not work.

The House We Built in the 90s exhibition aims to create a provocative experience by confronting visitors with objects and audio-video installations that mark the cultural, political and ideological changes that occurred in the last decade of the 20th century. By integrating objects into a single whole that represent the phenomena of the fall of the Berlin Wall, wars in the former Yugoslavia and the influence of pop/thrash culture, the exhibition seeks to evoke memories and show the perspective of a young person in adolescence, a person who was formed at that time. The very (in)ability to access the past, i.e., the absence of an officially defined historical perspective of that period, leaves the possibility for multiple parallel interpretations of history. Therefore, the objects do not give clear and concrete ideological or political positions, but instead open up the question of what the 90s were and how that time have formed a personality or a society, i.e., what kind of house we built in the 90s.

Partner of the Kaleidoscope of culture is Erste Bank. Partner of the multimedia event ‘Unbreakable Bonds’ is Neoplanta.

The event is finished.
