The Man Who Sold His Skin / Art of Migration, Migration in Art

The film screening of ‘The Man Who Sold His Skin’ will be held in the Gallery of Matica Srpska on 12 April, as an accompanying programme of the exhibition that will be held within the Migrations programme arch entitled ‘Art of Migration, Migration in Art’.

In the film where Monica Bellucci plays one of the leading roles, the story revolves around a young, emotional and occasionally impulsive Syrian refugee, Sam, who left his country for Lebanon to escape the war. To be able to travel to Europe and live with the love of his life, he accepts to have his back tattooed by the young blasé contemporary artist. Turning his own body into a prestigious piece of art, Sam will, however, come to realise that his decision might actually mean anything but freedom. As the young Tunisian director Ben Hania says, the film is an encounter of the two worlds that intertwine, managed by completely different codes. On the one hand, we have an elite group in which freedom is the key concept, and on the other hand, a world of survival that depends on current events and without much freedom of choice.
