The Music Programme of the Opening of the Kaleidoscope of Culture (9 September)
The music programme for the opening of the Kaleidoscope of Culture, on 9 September, will feature performances by artists that will take place in the renovated District, one of the most significant infrastructural legacies of the European Capital of Culture. The Novi Sad audience will be presented by DJs Milana Nikić, Iva Lorens, Merina Gris, Verboten Berlin, as well as DJs Vladimir Aćić and Dejan Milićević. The concerts are part of the multimedia event ‘Unbreakable Ties’, which will be held in the District from 8 to 10 September.
The admission to all concerts is free of charge.
DJ Milana Nikić is a theatre and film director who skillfully balances music and directing behind the pseudonym Beton i Šljokice. She will perform at the Menza facility in the District from 10 p.m. She is an advocate of artistic freedom, and through eclectic DJ sets that organically collide, she strives to create a hypnotizing narrative of every party through the form of presence. ‘With a deep belief in the potential of every event as a ritual – I always go on stage with the same goal – to facilitate a collective journey towards liberation through music,’ says this artist.
Iva Lorens is a singer-songwriter who appeared on the local scene at the end of 2021 and soon attracted the attention of the audience and positive reviews with her two singles. She will perform on the main street in the District from 11:15 p.m. Lorens is ‘the promise of a new, proud Serbian mainstream’, said Dragan Ambrozić. Her music carries elements of electro pop, Iva’s gentle vocals adorn and float through her music adding depth to the overall arrangements and heartfelt lyrics. In March 2023, she released her debut album entitled Svitanje, which consists of 10 songs, about which she says: ‘This album is my debut, it represents growing up, falling in love, the society we are in and much more, it is an album that I I wished to have on our local scene during my growing up.’
The concert is the result of cooperation with the Serbia Creates platform.
Merina Gris is a Basque band founded in 2020 by Sarah, Julen and Paskal. The group will perform on Main Street in the District from 10 p.m. Last year it was on several rankings for the best album. The band has performed more than 35 shows across Spain, including Bilbao BBK Live 2023 and Eurosonic 2023 in Groningen. Their music is vibrant, avant-garde pop with nostalgic elements that reach the status of a generational anthem, positioning the band highly on the Spanish music scene. Merina Gris is made up of three anonymous, masked figures who put the focus on art over personality.
Verboten Berlin performs in front of the Warehouse in the District from 10 p.m., and it is a project by a Berlin musicianof Berlin-based musician Alexander Freund who combines Neo Kraut and Berlin’s club culture with his passion for composing and writing. From playing the guitar at an early age, Freund has evolved into a composer, writer and producer who has collaborated with various musical names around the world for two decades. ‘Impressed by the club scene and the freedoms of the city, I draw from my heritage and daily life in my current home observing the world and contributing to it through music.’ Analogue retro sounds are connected with digital precision, cellos and pianos harmonize with electronic synthesizers, vocal clips and drum machines – everything comes together in an emotional, euphoric moment of connection, both in the studio and on stage.

Short Reports is a loud alternative music duo from Novi Sad, which will perform in the District from 00:15. The characteristic of the band are abstract rhythms on the drum and riffs on the guitar, which is also a bass guitar. The band was formed at the end of 2019, and has been active in concerts since mid-2021. They played the first album Cats VS Dogs, Short Reports in over 50 cities in Europe and the Balkans, and along with it they also play new songs, some of which were created at the concerts themselves. In 2022, they presented Novi Sad as the European Capital of Culture in Luxembourg at the NEXT Festival in Esch. After that, the band also played at the PIN – Skopje festival, as well as at the B.A.R.F. festival in Belgrade, the Kaleidoscope of Culture in Novi Sad and several others throughout the region. The first tour in 2023 covered Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Croatia and Serbia, where the duo held a large number of joint and independent concerts, and in July 2023 the band played at the Exit Festival as well as at the Nišville Festival in August.
