Uroš Predić as a Thinker: Letters, Notes, Thoughts / Uroš Predić for Everyone
A lecture by Goran Vujkov, a Bachelor of Philosophy, entitled ‘Uroš Predić as a Thinker: Letters, Notes, Thoughts’, will take place at the Gallery of Matica Srpska on 18 November at 7 p.m., as an accompanying programme of the ‘Uroš Predić for Everyone’ exhibition.
Uroš Predić’s artistic oeuvre is enriched with various topics, genres, and artistic deliberations. As a student of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, he proved to be an excellent connoisseur and an artist in the making, while his encounter with European culture and thoughts will influence his intellectual work. To deepen the image and work of this great artist, we will read the theoretical and philosophical influences on Predić’s life and work within the lecture. We will analytically present the philosophical thought of Uroš Predić and show how philosophers such as Arthur Schopenhauer, Immanuel Kant, Nietzsche, and others influenced his reflection on art, artwork, culture, and morality, by researching the collected letters of Uroš Predić, his autobiography, and archival materials of other figures from his life. We will pay attention to how the aesthetics of the 19th century formed aesthetic categories in the era in which Uroš Predić created and point out the important cultural influences of European heritage on Serbian art.
