Panel “Women in Media Arts” (Mileva: Decoding)
The panel titled “Women in Media Arts” is part of the multimedia event “Mileva: Decoding”, which will take place at Čeličana, in Distrikt, and in this way commemorate 150 years since the birth of Mileva Marić Einstein. “Mileva: Decoding” will ceremonially open Čeličana as a new, renovated space in Distrikt, and its multimedia character will once again confirm the UNESCO title that Novi Sad received in 2023 as a city of media arts.
“Women in Media Arts” is a panel where, on December 21 at 5:00 PM, the keynote speakers will be Joana Miranda, chief coordinator of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network for Media Arts, Veronika Kristina Libl, executive director of the Ars Electronica Festival, and media artist Andrea Stojanovič.
The panel will be opened with an introductory speech by Jelena Pejović Van Reenen, an expert in European programs, international cooperation, and civil society development. She will present the project “Support for Participation in Union Programs”, which contributes to gender equality.
The panel “Women in Media Arts” will be held on December 21 at 5:00 PM.

Joana Miranda, Coordinator of the UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts Braga
Joana Miranda is a cultural manager working at the intersection of art, science, and technology. She coordinates the Braga UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts programme within Faz Cultura, where she also oversees CIRCUITO, an educational and training programme, as well as INDEX, the International Biennale of Art and Technology. She is currently the coordinator of the subnetwork of 27 UNESCO Creative Cities of Media Arts and is involved in international collaborations supported by Creative Europe, Horizon Europe, and Erasmus+. Joana contributed to the development of a master’s programme in media arts at the University of Minho, and in 2024 coordinated the annual meeting of the UNESCO Creative Cities network in Braga, which gathered 700 delegates from 250 cities. With a background in communication studies, documentary studies, and culture and communication, she has extensive experience in project coordination and digital media, and previously served as director of TVU and founder of the international video festival U.FRAME.
Veronika Christina Liebl, Executive Director of the Ars Electronica Festival
Veronika Liebl is currently the executive director at Ars Electronica, responsible for the festival, the Prix award, and exhibitions. She studied economics and business sciences and has an interdisciplinary background in nonprofit and innovation management. Since 2011, she has led cultural management and the development of European projects at Ars Electronica. Additionally, she is a member of the Cultural Council of the City of Linz and the executive board of Linz UNESCO City of Media Arts. For fifteen years, she has actively participated in programming collaborative programmes with partners from art, science, and industry. Within this framework, she has developed, launched, and implemented numerous projects, including the START Prize and the European ARTificial Intelligence Lab.
Andrea Stojanovič, Media Artist
An experienced and innovative media artist, researcher, and lecturer, Andrea will present the Hungarian institution CODE-Vesprem. She began working as a VJ at techno parties and has been creating real-time audiovisual installations since 2001. Andrea earned her PhD in 2019 at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts with a dissertation titled “VJ-ing as a Method.” In addition to her artistic work, she teaches at the Department of Intermedia at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts. Her main educational and research interests include visual music and neuroscience-inspired art, with a focus on meditative/chill spaces and closed-eye visions.

Monika Bilbija,Visual artist, stage designer and architect
In her work, she connects architecture with visual and performing arts through the medium of the exhibition, which she shapes as a spatial installation – an autonomous artistic work of space. Her exhibitions are contextual, spatial–narrative works in which text, scenography, light, sound, video and objects intertwine, creating a unique experience of space and story. She completed her architecture studies at the University of Banja Luka, theatre studies at the University of Amsterdam, and the theory of dramatic and audiovisual arts at the University of Arts in Belgrade, while earning a PhD in stage design at the University of Novi Sad. She is a recipient of the Erasmus Mundus scholarship of the European Commission. She is the author and co-author of numerous exhibitions and cultural projects, as well as the book Film Curatorial Practices: From the Black Box to the Black Box of the White Cube. She is currently completing her second doctoral dissertation in the field of architecture.
The event is supported through the UNESCO Participation and Emergency Aid Programme, contributing to the development of sustainable gender equality strategies in creative industries, with the participation of the Creative Europe Desk Serbia, the Support for Participation in EU Programmes project, and the European House Novi Sad.
