The Emperor’s New Clothes / Novi Sad Theatre Festival
The puppet show ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ co-produced by two theatres from the region (Maribor Puppet Theatre from Slovenia and Rijeka City Puppet Theatre from Croatia) will present an adaptation of this famous fairy tale in Youth Theatre on 8 May within the Future of Europe programme arch.
Two children are playing in an old abandoned textile factory. Ropes, threads, fabrics, lamps and shadows become their toys. Children tell stories and imagine a world in which the factory is reopened, and their parents have a job again. The only way to achieve this in the real world is to convince the emperor to reopen the factory. Maybe there is another way: fraud.
The author’s puppet show is an adaptation of the world-famous fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. It is a story that enables the child to get acquainted with the topics that define the modern world: politics, consumerism, globalization and battles for a better life. The story seeks to entertain children, but also to offer them thoughts about the world in which they grow up.
