Concert by Neža Torkar
Neža Torkar’s concert will be held at the Synagogue on 18 May at 8.22 p.m., within the opening of the Heroines programme arch. On that occasion, the world premiere of the work for accordion and orchestra by the prominent Iranian composer Arshia Samsaminia, will be performed. It is entitled ‘Matica’, and it was written specifically to mark the title year. The ensemble will perform under the baton of Bojan Suđić.
The event will elevated by the projection of the Novi Sad video artist Dejan Stojkov.
The concert will be held as part of the Festival of Accordion and Chamber Music ‘Eufonija’, which was established in Novi Sad seven years ago with a goal to promote and develop art music for the accordion. The festival will be held from 18 to 21 May 2022.
As the accordion is still perceived as a male instrument, the programme, which highlights women artists, accordionists, composers, and organisers, seeks to support and empower all those young female accordion artists who struggle against imposed stereotypes in their education and artistic work. It is dedicated to the promotion of women in art who, with their energy and commitment, created the history of the accordion in the music of the 20th and 21st centuries.
During the Heroines programme arch, fans of accordion and chamber music will have the opportunity to attend two more concerts, which are held at the Serbian National Theatre on the ‘Pera Dobrinović’ stage: ‘New Serbian Music for Accordion’ which will be held on 20 May at 8.22 p.m. and ‘Memories’ performed by Bogdan Ranković and ‘Ethnoforia’ on 21 May at 8.22 p.m.
