Heroines of Pavle Beljanski – A Guided Tour by the Author / The Heroines of the Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection

Author’s tour of the exhibition entitled ‘Heroines of Pavle Beljanski’ by Milana Kvas will take place on 2 June at 7 p.m.

The multimedia exhibition ‘The Heroines of the Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection’ will take place within the ‘Heroines’ programme arch in the Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection from 20 May until 15 July.

The fact that a quarter of the works in the Memorial Collection are works by female artists makes this legacy specific in national and international contexts. Carefully choosing works for more than four decades, Pavle Beljanski created a collection whose content confirms the importance of women’s creativity in understanding the values of national art history. From the current perspective, when issues on women’s equality are still relevant, his evaluation and selection of artists for the anthology of national and Yugoslav modern art are a great endeavour. He had been choosing their works in the period between the two world wars and in the time of socialist Yugoslavia, when they were not only revolutionaries on the canvas, but they participated in the social struggle of women for emancipation and the right to professional identity only with their unique appearance. We can freely say that his endeavour is heroic, and the artists whose works he chose for the collection are his heroines.

Wednesday – Sunday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Thursday: 1 – 9 p.m.
The entrance is free of charge.
