Playing Up / Novi Sad Theatre Festival
The interdisciplinary intergenerational game ‘Playing Up’ will be implemented at the Danube Park on 14 May from 12 p.m. This inclusive game will be presented as part of the programme of the international ‘Novi Sad Theatre Festival’, which will be held within the ‘Fairy Tales of the Future’ programme unit.
‘Playing Up’ is an author’s project by Sibylle Peters, a director from the Theatre of Research (Germany), created in collaboration with the Live Art Development Agency – LADA (United Kingdom) and Tate Modern (United Kingdom).
‘Make clothes out of food, lie on top of a car, dance with animals, try bagism, start ketchup fights, remotely control parents, invent your own version of performance sports, look for miracles, deconstruct electrical appliances and build advanced machines of the future!’
‘Playing Up’ is an inclusive, interdisciplinary and intergenerational game that invites children and adults to explore the world of living art together.
The game interprets conceptual ideas in simple language, provides a safe space for re-examining the relations between generations and calls for critical reflection on living art, questioning its limits and relationship with the natural and social sciences.
The game consists of a set of 37 cards/tasks. Each describes a work of living art, which needs to be answered with a performative reinterpretation. Tasks are divided into six categories: body and perception; outside and around; collections and memories; beings and objects; challenges and dangers; science and reflection.
‘Playing Up’ is a project that refers not only to the art that children watch, enjoy and learn from, but also to the art that children create. It raises questions: what art can provide to children and what children can provide to art.
The game is intended for children older than six years of age and adults. You can find more information on the link.
‘Playing Up’ project is supported by Goethe-Institut in Serbia.
