Hauptman / Future of Europe

The ‘Flags of the Future’ programme unit, within the Future of Europe programme arch, will begin with a unique European Capitals of Culture Jazz Marathon in the Creative District on 28 April.

Hauptman will perform on Stage 4 at 9 p.m. 

During the multi-hour programme, the audience from Novi Sad will be introduced to 7 young jazz ensembles from past, present, and future European Capitals of Culture. This concert evening will show a large audience new tendencies and directions in jazz music in Europe.

Since the summer of 2019, Žan Hauptman has been performing under the stage name Hauptman. Hauptman is a graduated jazz singer and self-taught pianist. His music can be described as a blend of jazz, alternative RnB, soul, and pop. Through relaxed grooves, he is distancing himself from the typical arrangement and harmonious approaches of contemporary pop artists. He is creating his unique sound by merging and combining different genres.

‘Finished, not perfect’ is the first album by Hauptman, and the title reflects the realisation that perfection can never be achieved and that by blindly pursuing it we might never actually finish anything. Perfection is the point at which growth and progress end and Hauptman is accepting his imperfection and nurtures his creativity to continue growing and learning through doing. The album was self-released, and it includes 5 already released and 6 brand new records. The songs are intertwined with short speeches that are created by the guitarist and co-lyricist Urška Supej.

The following bands will perform during the evening: Any Key Trio representing Tartu 2024,  Kijube representing Veszprém-Balaton 2023, Purple is the Color as a representative of Linz 2009, The Arthur Possing Quartet representing Esch 2022, drumbooty as a representative of Novi Sad 2022.

Performances by Nu Jazz ensembles and DJs, who will present this innovative direction to the Novi Sad audience, are scheduled for 29 April in the Creative District.
