The Broz Family Album / The Partisan and Fragonard. Collection of Jovanka Broz

The lecture by Radovan Cukić entitled ‘The Broz Family Album’ within the exhibition ‘The Partisan and Fragonard. Collection of Jovanka Broz’, will be held in the Gallery of Matica Srpska on 17 June.

The Museum of Yugoslavia preserves the photography resources, significant both in scope and the cognitive potential it offers to researchers in Yugoslavia and beyond. The basis of the photographic collection is photography collections inherited from the former Memorial Centre ‘Josip Broz Tito’, in the first place, the photo archive of Josip Broz Tito. The rich material that makes up the archive, mainly focused on the point of view of the lifelong president of Yugoslavia (and to some extent his wife), makes, in a way, a big family album of the married couple Broz. Due to the status of the couple, this material is unavoidable for exploring almost every topic related to Socialist Yugoslavia. The interest of the professional and wider public is supported by the intensive digitisation process lasting for more than a decade, and by the presentation of this collection through numerous activities of the Museum of Yugoslavia. The lecture will focus on the photo collections of the Museum of Yugoslavia, with an emphasis on the photo archives of Josip Broz Tito, the processes of researching this material and its digitisation, dissemination of findings, but also perspectives on further development of the collection.
