Diaries of Migration: Notes on Novi Sad Families
The Novi Sad audience will have the opportunity to see the exhibition and attend a series of panels ‘The Diaries of Migration: Notes on Novi Sad Families’ in the Gallery Prometej from 10 February to 8 March, within the ‘Migrations’ programme arch. There, the daily lives of four prominent families who moved to Novi Sad in the period from the 18th to the 20th century will be presented.
The exhibition will open on 10 February 2022, at 6 p.m.
Panels and workshops will be held as part of the exhibition, and workshops for children are scheduled – for primary school age on 17 February and for high school age on 24 February from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Through the exhibition and publication, we present four Novi Sad families Šosberger, Karlavaris, Kapamadžija and Bori – who moved to Novi Sad during different historical periods (from the first half of the 18th to the second half of the 20th century). Based on documentation and photographs and selected personal and family items, oral lore, and anecdotes, which were preserved in these families, we will present the public and private history of their most prominent members (Kapamadžijas have been eminent doctors for generations, Karlavaris bankers and artists, Šosbergers also doctors, and Boris eminent scientists).
The exhibitions will be followed by panels, that is, talks with the family members and about eminent family members of the said families, workshops for children of primary and high school age, which will be dedicated to discussion and making of family trees, the importance of family heritage and the like.
In this way, we will present the multiculturalism of our city and the coexistence of members of different national communities, which influenced the formation of its identity.
Migrations are a specific feature of Novi Sad, and each of the families that will be represented, came at a certain moment in the past, farther or closer, and settled in Novi Sad. This city was and remains the point of their meeting. Some representatives of these families met as members of the same profession or were members of a particular society at a certain period of time.
