Živka Sirinićka Got Married / Vila
The dance performance ‘Živka Sirinićka Got Married’ will be held within the family festival ‘Vila’ on Fruška gora in Vrdnik on 4 June at 9 p.m..
Some of the significant characteristics of national and traditional art from the beginning of the 20th century were the plays about heroes, who were the central figures of a particular time and with their characteristics, as well as life, inspired and expressed the highest ideals. Due to the warrior-like atmosphere of the 19th and early 20th centuries, national heroes were battlefield heroes. Wars between Serbia and Turkey had a special place in Serbian cultural life. The traditional woman’s role was to help and mourn these heroes. The woman’s role was a confirmation of the masculinity of the hero, father, brother, and husband.
‘Živka Sirinićka Got Married’ is a dance performance designed to show the position of a woman in the early 20th century through a script that combines traditional dances, contemporary movement, stage fights, songs and dramatisation, with arranged, composed music. It is a story of unfortunate love, sung in the traditional song ‘Živka Sirinićka Got Married’.
The play is dedicated to women, heroines of the patriarchal time.
Some of the most significant European heroines of art will gather at the first festival called ‘Vila’ (Fairy), in the heart of the oldest national park, Fruška gora, in Vrdnik from 3 to 5 June.
